We are a Place to Belong
We have a core value of creating and offering sacred space for gathering, encountering God, and being replenished and equipped for service. Our historic corner of 7th Street and Southern Avenue has long been a community center of our South Mountain neighborhood. True to that heritage, we see South Mountain Community Church as a place of gathering, fellowship, spiritual growth and connection in the midst of the great diversity of population in our neighborhood.
Our congregation offers the opportunity to belong to a group of people, many of whom have long-time residential and family affiliation in our neighborhood, plus some that are new to the community and are putting down roots here.
- Our members and friends are highly knowledgeable and experienced in knowing Phoenix as a wonderful place of living, working, and learning. For the newcomer to our area, we can offer supportive relationships in order to make Phoenix feel like home!
- Our weekly Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m. and following fellowship is our key time to connect with each other, and spiritually ground ourselves for the week. We are an English-speaking congregation, with a heart, openness, and sense of responsibility to the global community.
- Our Spiritual Health Team and network offer care that we may need either periodically or on a regular basis. Our team includes the Pastors, our Congregational Nurse, and some of our members who are knowledgeable in the social services of our area.
- We have a much-looked-forward-to monthly fellowship called the “Lunch Bunch” at a local restaurant. Come to the Jumbo Buffet and Grill, located at 3414 W. Southern Avenue on the second Friday of the month at 11:00 a.m. We take donations. The rest is our treat!
- For those who would like to explore membership, we periodically hold flexible classes. We also offer one-to-one conversations.
- We have a weekly Bible Study class on Wednesday that offers as much friendship and supportive sharing and praying, as it does Bible study!
